Just shuffling through my phone’s music player, I realized that I like a lot of songs that not everyone has heard of. Most of them could pass as pop songs, but they never went mainstream.

Some of these I got from my Kid as he likes to listen to ‘indie music’. Who knew they aren’t all about rock.

LANDON PIGG – COFFEE SHOP                                                                                                                    This is a song I’d likely listen to before going to sleep. It’s a very slow love song, but it has a nice tune to it. The words mixed with Landon’s voice, it’s relaxing. Great to listen to while having a cup of coffee inside Starbucks or something.

SNOW PATROL – BERLIN                                                                                                                                This is a song that doesn’t have any lyrics or words in it. It’s just humming and instruments. But everytime I listen to it, I feel like it’s the soundtrack to a romantic comedy’s climax scenes. The tempo goes up and then falls towards the end. Maybe a tragic story. I don’t really know, but that’s the feeling I get when I listen to this song. It inspires me to write a story actually.

SONDRE LERCHE – 2 WAY MONOLOGUE                                                                                                    I’m not really sure if Sondre Lerche is a mainstream or indie artist, all I know is that I’ve never heard of him in any of the radio stations that I listen to. But I really love his songs. This one’s my favorite because I think I sound like him when I sing this song. And I sing this song good.

DUKES OF DAVILLE – CRY BABY                                                                                                                   This song, I first heard in an episode of Private Practice many years ago. It’s about this girl who makes this guy cry because she likes someone else. Apparently she was a bad girl who makes other commit incest. It’s kinda funny and sad at the same time. I don’t know why, but I really can’t just stop myself from listening to this song.

YOUNG THE GIANT – COUGH SYRUP                                                                                                           The Kid recently put this on my player, I honestly did not expect to like this song but I did. It’s a great song. I don’t know but I agree to one of it’s lines. “Life’s to short to even care at all.” I honestly think this song’s about getting high on cough syrup. I think it is. But who cares, it sounds great. And I’m all about music that sounds good in the ears, and this one’s it.

GOTYE – I FEEL BETTER                                                                                                                                  This song is currently my feel-good song. It’s upbeat. It’s about feeling good. And it’s infectious. Don’t let the trumpet opening turn you away. This is a great song. Makes you think of the one who makes you happy, and then you’ll feel better.

Bloggers write better when they are single.

I’m not sure, but I have noticed this not only with myself but with quite a number of people in the blogging community. There are those, like myself, that don’t get to write as much when they were single. There are those that don’t have anything interesting to write anymore. And then there are those who stop trying altogether and leave their blogs until they are single again.

It could be the lack of material. I think that being in a relationship refrains some from writing about their usual topics of sex, crushes or other stuff single people usually write.

Or it could be that they just don’t want to smother their readers with their love for their partners.

Of course, the same is not applicable to real writers. These people regardless single or otherwise produces superb materials.
